Hampton family papers [addition], 1904 and 1995.

Correspondence, 1904 and 1995, re the sword of Gen. Wade Hampton, III (1818-1902) that was lost during the Civil War. Letters, 23 Feb. and 8 June 1904, of Miss Minnie M. Dennis, Eureka, Illinois, re the Civil War sword of Gen. Wade Hampton and the return of it to Hampton's son, McDuffie Hampton, by Union Army veteran Joseph Major, also a resident of Eureka, Illinois. Major had served in the 86th Regiment, Illinois Infantry. Letters, 22 Feb. and 7 Mar. 1995, between Russell S. Hall, of Germantown, Tenn., and L. Lee Hemphill, Reference Librarian, The State, Columbia, S.C., re Hall's interest in including a feature story on the return of the sword in the 28 Mar. 1995 edition of The State newspaper and the paper's editorial decision to decline the offer.
